When newlyweds, Carol and I had a couch in our living room that was so long it poked into the hallway. It was a fine couch; it just didn;t fit in our apartment. Many of us have pet doctrines like that couch. They seem plausible but they don't fit with biblical reality. Over the years, I've learned to keep a loose grip on some theological ideas of mine that may be peripheral and instead simply preach the gospel, 'not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power' (1 Co. 1:17, NIV).
